If you are looking for a dog you should carefully think about it and ask yourself a few questions to ensure a harmonious coexistence.

 

What is important about the dog? Are you looking for one that is not loosing hair or do you prefer a quiet dog, that does not need so much entertainment?

 

There are more than100 breeds and certainly one that almost perfectly fits you. More often it happens that people procuring a dog and leave it behind because he did not fulfill the owners expectations. So its best to get detailed information before, like reading books, talking to breeders, searching on the internet.

Of course each dog is different, but its´s still different if you will choose a lapdog or a herding dog.

 

If you want to get an idea about the different kind of dogs you can have a look at the scheme from the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale). That is the biggest international federation of kennel clubs. All breeds are divided into 10 groups. These groups are based on different issues such as appearance or use.

 

It will help you to get an idea about the dog breed you like. If you look for example at the Golden Retriever, then you should know that it is a sporting dog breed and originally cultured to retrieve game birds (= wildvögel?) to the hunter. So it is logical that these dogs like to swim and retrieve things. So if you do not want a dog that is crazy about water and retrieving, these dog from the group Retrievers/ Flushing Dogs/ Water Dogs are not made for you.

 

You should also be careful with 'prejudice' against dog breeds. As exampls pugs look like cozy dogs and a lot of people think, that they are lazy and calm. Pugs are very bright by nature and love to be entertained.

People also think that small dogs are easier than bigger ones. That is not true, it also depends on the breed. Dachshunds for example were cultured to hunt on badgers and foxes, so they have to be really brave and courageaous.These dogs have a really self-confident and that is why they need an owner that is really strict.

 

All in all I want to appeal that if you are looking for a dog, please think about it first and think about your choice, too. Does the dog fits to you and into your family? Is it ok for the dog to lead the life you do?

 

In the end, if you find the right dog, it´s one of the best things that can happen to you in life!
